The Discipline Group of Communication Studies is in the School of Social and Cultural Studies, within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at The University of Western Australia.

The group has a strong undergraduate and postgraduate teaching program, and is actively involved in research.

Student news!

Congratulations to Gary Sewell who battled it out against 13 other creatives to win the WA heat of the SDA National Pitch which was held on August 20 at the Velvet Lounge in Mount Lawley. Judges Francesca Hope, Ryan Hodgson and Yvette Coyne had a very hard time coming up with a winner as the quality of all the presentations and ideas were so good. Gary Sewell was awarded for his dark adult comedy/drama called "Broken People".

Congratulations to final year Communication Studies student Harriet Riley who has been selected to take part in the Youth Encounter on Sustainability (YES!) event held this January and February 2009 in Noosa, Queensland.  The YES event is run by the Center for Sustainability at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and the International Water Centre and Harriet's was successful competing against a wide field of applicants.  For more details see: http://www.sustainability.ethz.ch/en/activities/YES_Australia.cfm
